In the last week of the summer holidays Liv M. and Jamie F. represented their respective Saxon Tigers teams at the Futures Cup. Both were selected following extensive assessments since lockdown was partially lifted at the end of March. Freya A. was also selected as reserve for the Saxon Tigers Under U15 Girls.

In the U17 Girls tournament, Saxon Tigers scored two goals in the last quarter to claim a 2-1 win over the Wessex Leopards. They then lost 0-1 to the Caledonian Cougars from Scotland who were hanging on at the end and only had nine players on the pitch but the Tigers couldn’t grab the equaliser. The group was very tight and ended with Saxon Tigers coming third, resulting in a play-off match with Mercia Lynx which they won 2-0 with Liv scoring the second goal to seal the match.

In the U15 Boys tournament the Saxon Tigers beat the Celtic Jaguars from Wales 6-1 and the Caledonian Cougars 4-2 to reach the final against Wessex Leopards. After a 1-1 draw Jamie scored his first shootout shuffle but his side lost 2-3 to take the silver medal. Following these performances, Jamie has been included in the initial England U16 squad of 38 that includes no less than eight goalkeepers – a great achievement.

In addition Ben G. who played for England U18s over the summer has again been included in this year’s initial assessment group of 60.

Well done to all of these athletes.
