On Thursday 18th November the climbing team headed to High Sports Climbing Centre in Brighton.

Despite the team being disseminated by illness and trips to get PCR tests four members of the squad were able to attend.

Ruari B.-S. stepped up as Captain as Will S. was unable to attend. James M. and Ozzy L. made up the Over 16 Boys’ team with Anna L. attending as an individual. All climbers were also scored individually in their categories.

The competition was made up of roped climbs and boulder. Teams had two hours to complete 5 roped climbs and 20 boulders. Scores were given depending on how high the climber got or how many attempts on the boulder problems.

The competition took a slightly different format this year with one eye on Covid. Teams arrived throughout the day and included Sevenoaks, Trinity, Merchant Taylors, Brighton, Seaford, Tonbridge, Ardingly and Christs Hospital.

Cranleigh came 2nd overall, with individual successes:

  • James won the over 16’s overall, including bronze in the bouldering
  • Ruari came 4th overall and 1st in the top rope
  • Anna came 3rd in the girls over 16’s
  • Ozzy had a great competition coming 24th. He has only been climbing this term and this was his first ever roped climb. He is destined for great things

Well done to all the climbers and we look forward to the Nationals with a full squad.
