A stunning comeback against the ever strong Repton has sealed the Boys 1s a semi-final at Lee Valley Olympic Park next Wednesday against Trinity, Croydon.
Cranleigh had a great move from the start and hit the post within 10 seconds but 14 minutes later they found themselves 0-3 down from a rampant and talented Repton side. Showing great resilience they fought back and scored two goals before hitting the other post on the stroke of half time.
Repton came out all guns blazing at the start of the second half and created a number of very good chances that just went wide of the posts. Cranleigh then scored an excellent reverse stick goal and the game was on. It quickly became end to end and on one of Cranleigh’s sorties we scored a fourth to lead for the first time. All hands to the pump and we held out to record a famous 4-3 victory.
The league campaign had seen us start with a good 2-1 win over Millfield before a 4-7 loss against a really strong Peter Symonds outfit. A reasonably comfortable 5-2 win over local rivals RGS Guildford was followed by a thrilling 1-0 victory away to Taunton that left us in a good position at Christmas. With other results going our way, qualification for the quarter-finals was secured before we played at home to Dean Close in which we lost 1-3 in a ‘dead rubber’.
So to the Olympic Park for the conclusion of the competition over two days with all to play for.
