In mid February the golf team headed up to Dundonald Links to play in the Swifts Schools Golf Tour 54 hole strokeplay event. There was a very strong field with teams from many of the Scottish schools who we don’t normally compete against. We got off to a very strong start with James M. and Jamie McG. sitting in 1st and 2nd places after the first round, having just dropped 1 and 2 shots respectively. An early start on the Monday, with frost still on the greens, and two more rounds to play resulted in some movement in the leaderboard and we ended the tournament with James M. in 3rd place and Jamie McG. in 13th. The school team were 6th overall. There is one more event this term before we head to the JCB Golf and Country Club for the finals weekend towards the end of April.

James M. has just had a great week playing in the Sunningdale Foursomes competition – a very prestigious scratch tournament attracting some of the best amateur players in the country alongside a number of professional golfers. From a starting field of 128 pairs James and his partner made it through 3 tough rounds to get to the last 16, they lost on the 17th hole. This is a fantastic achievement for a junior amateur golfer.
