In the Fourth Form Independent Response project, pupils are tasked to independently respond to a fiction book of their own choosing in a number of different ways to create a body of work equivalent to a half term’s study. Pupils complete 4 tasks – an analytical task; a creative response; they must research, write and deliver a persuasive speech; and a two-part reflective task. Pupils also get to choose and personalise their tasks, as well as having to organise their time effectively and independently. Through giving students responsibility and, crucially, choice, this project is intended to develop creativity, resilience, independence and help instil positive reading habits. It is repeatedly cited by pupils as the best part of their academic experience in Fourth Form English and the varied and imaginative Creative Responses are often the highlight. See some of the creative tasks that our pupils made below, including a poem that one of the pupils wrote.
