On Sunday both Cranleigh pupils and staff had the pleasure of listening to a talk from Tommy Tippetts, an Old Cranleighan of Loveday House, outlining his row across the Atlantic Ocean earlier this year.

Now the Guinness World Book of Records Holder of the “youngest male to row across any ocean solo”, Tommy shared the story of his gruelling travels, right from when he first heard of the Solo Atlantic Row, to stepping foot on land for the first time in three thousand miles once he had reached Barbados in April this year.

The talk grabbed the attention of the audience, leading to many pupils staying behind to ask Tommy questions, both about the row itself and also about the charity he supported along the way, “Mind”, raising money and awareness for people with mental health problems. It is safe to say that the audience certainly gained a great deal of inspiration from Tommy’s talk, as well as a lot of pride for this Old Cranleighan’s accomplishment. Best of luck goes out to Tommy in all of his future endeavours.
