A school with ‘high expectations’ where ‘pupils flourish’ says Cranleigh’s latest inspection report

Cranleigh School praised in latest Independent Schools Inspectorate report.

Cranleigh’s latest Independent Schools Inspectorate report has been published. The report, which looks into every aspect of school life including academic achievement, wellbeing and sport, says that ‘the aim to educate each pupil to be the best they can be’ is ‘firmly rooted.’

Sam Price, Head at Cranleigh School, said: “We’re extremely pleased to receive such a strong validation of what we offer at Cranleigh. Inspectors praised our ‘positive learning environment where academic achievement and pupils’ wellbeing are equally valued and where pupils flourish’. They wrote that the wellbeing of all pupils ‘lies at the heart’ of everything we do. The inspectors could see how the development of our curriculum and our facilities are making a tangible difference to the learning and personal development of our pupils. It’s a green light to move forward to the next exciting phase of Cranleigh’s development.”

The report is the first to be published since our Prep and Senior sites have been brought together as one school. The impact of this was praised in the report which described ‘an inclusive environment that celebrates diversity and equality for all, which enables pupils to value their individuality and uniqueness.’

Boarding and academic success

The report highlighted the strength of Cranleigh’s boarding provision saying that ‘pupils settle quickly into the boarding community’ and that ‘boarders are well looked after’ with ‘high quality provision’ and ‘a wide range of weekend and evening activities that promote and sustain their wellbeing.’ Inspectors also highlighted the breadth of Cranleigh’s offer, describing it as ‘innovative and well-resourced’ as well as ‘notably rich and varied’.

Mrs Price continued: “Our inspection showed something that we already know and are already very proud of, which is that it’s our pupils that really make the School so special. There were some wonderful comments about Cranleighans in the report. I was especially pleased to read that inspectors recognised that ‘older pupils act as positive role models’ and that all pupils are ‘kind and tolerant’.”

The report also praised Cranleigh’s effective use of digital technology, careers guidance, support for pupils with additional learning needs and the ‘supportive classroom environment’ and the ‘calm and reflective atmosphere in classrooms’. The report follows last summer’s outstanding set of exam results where 76% of all GCSE grades in English, mathematics and science were graded 9-7. At A Level, 83% of grades were at A*-B.
