A Legacy of Performance: How Cranleigh’s 2026 Performing Arts Festival is Shaping the Future

From Fame Jr. to SIX: The Musical, Cranleigh’s 2026 Performing Arts Festival empowers pupils both on stage and behind the scenes.

Cranleigh School has long been proud of its rich musical and theatrical history. From the school’s earliest days of intimate choral recitals and traditional house plays to the establishment of our state-of-the-art performing arts facilities, our journey has been one of ambitious, deliberate growth. We have continuously evolved our creative offering, expanding our resources and bridging the path between Prep and Senior Schools. This journey culminated earlier this spring in a historic, whole-school production of The Sound of Music at London’s prestigious New Wimbledon Theatre.

That momentous step onto a West End-scale stage was far more than a singular triumph; it was a launchpad. Now, as the summer term reaches its peak, the campus is alive with the Cranleigh Performing Arts Festival 2026 – a multi-disciplinary showcase proving that our commitment to the arts is more vibrant, and more essential, than ever.

A Festival of Growth and Expression

At Cranleigh, we recognise that the performing arts are a vital engine for personal development. Rather than viewing the festival as simply a series of showcases, we treat it as a hands-on classroom for invaluable life skills.

In our younger pupils’ joyful production of Fame Jr., the incredible benefits of peer mentorship and shared ambition were on full display. Telling the story of young people striving for artistic excellence, the cast demonstrated infectious enthusiasm and brilliant comedic timing. More importantly, they learned how to work seamlessly as an ensemble, supporting one another through mistakes and triumphs alike to achieve a shared creative vision.

The Cranleigh Glitterball brought a dazzling array of movement to the festival line-up, featuring everything from contemporary dance to high-tempo jazz tap. In a demanding academic year, the rehearsal studio provides a vital sanctuary. Through the intense technical discipline of dance, our students find a healthy, expressive outlet for their emotions, building lasting friendships in the process.

Furthermore, the arts at Cranleigh empower our students far beyond the spotlight. The staging of our massive festival events relies heavily on student leadership behind the scenes. By supporting stage management, lighting design, and sound engineering, pupils gain hands-on, professional-grade technical experience, learning the art of problem-solving and event coordination in real-time.

The Show Goes On

The 2026 festival is far from over, with some of its most anticipated contemporary highlights still to come.
Next week, anticipation will reach fever pitch as our senior performers take the Speech Hall by storm with Six: The Musical. Delivering a powerhouse, pop-concert rendition of the lives of Henry VIII’s wives requires immense vulnerability and courage. Through mastering the complex vocal precision and tight choreography in rehearsals, these students are doing much more than preparing a spectacular show – they are building profound self-confidence and the resilience to conquer performance anxiety.

In addition to this blockbuster theatrical event, the campus is gearing up for the highly anticipated return of our contemporary music showcases: CPS Live! and Cranleigh Senior Live.

Representing the energetic pinnacle of our modern music programme, CPS Live! will showcase the stellar talents of our Prep contemporary musicians, reinforcing the close-knit, collaborative bridge between our schools. Following hot on their heels, Cranleigh Senior Live will take to the stage, featuring our senior rock bands, drum ensembles, and acoustic acts. These outdoor gigs are completely infused with student voice and agency, giving young musicians the freedom to curate their own setlists, express their individual styles, and perform with professional-grade sound and production.

These final showcases will bring this spectacular, multi-week celebration of Cranleigh talent to a fitting, thunderous close.
