On Saturday, we hosted our annual athletics meet at Broadbridge Heath, competing against regular rivals Epsom, Brighton, St John’s Leatherhead, and Sevenoaks. The day was filled with outstanding performances both on the track and in the field. Sean A. claimed victory in the senior boys’ 100m, while Jayne O. won the senior girls’ 100m. The 3000m saw an exciting sprint finish between Isaac T. and Archie L., and Lucy S. achieved a new personal best in the javelin — just moments after completing her own 3000m race. The event concluded with two new school records in the rarely-contested Swedish medley relay (legs of 100m, 200m, 300m, and 400m). The boys’ team of Dexter R., Sean A., Zac S., and Luke A. placed third, while the girls’ team—Lara B., Lucy S., Jayne O., and Gabi C-B. delivered a brilliant performance to take first place and set a new school record.
Cricket also brought some remarkable achievements over the weekend in matches against Hurstpierpoint. The 1st Team Girls secured a dominant 210-run victory, with captain Abby S. scoring a century and Felicity H. taking an incredible 5 wickets for just 6 runs — earning both players a spot on the honours board. The 1st XI Boys team followed with an emphatic win by 8 wickets, having bowled out the opposition for just 87. Alex F. and Ollie H. each took three wickets, and Zan C. anchored the chase with an unbeaten 46. Across all age groups, our teams won 8 of the 10 matches played. Highlights included 50s from Oscar P. and Zane M. for the 15Bs, and a 96-run opening partnership from Will W. and Harry C. for the 15Cs. We also had a mid-week game for the 15A girls cricket team who beat Guildford High to continue a wonderful season so far.
In tennis, our mixed doubles teams faced Wellington College. Congratulations to the 3rd team of George B., Harriet B., Daniel R., Molly A., Luisa C., and Henry L. for their impressive 7–2 victory. It was also brilliant to see the 14D team win by a strong margin. The 15Ds fought hard in an exceptionally close match that came down to the final game—despite a narrow loss, the quality of tennis was excellent.
Teams of the week
1) The Boys’ 14A cricket team continued their strong season with a well-earned 44-run victory. After posting a total of 164, Archie O’D. and Henry M. set the tone with a 65-run opening stand. The team followed up with sharp fielding and bowling, with Archie taking 4 wickets for just 17 runs in a match-winning performance.
2) The girls’ Athletics relay team who not only won their event but also set a new school record. Their commitment throughout the day was exceptional, competing across multiple events and giving their all for the team.
