For the second year running Cranleigh hosted the Surrey West Area Final of National Young Enterprise on the afternoon and evening of Wednesday March 14th. Fifteen of the liveliest and best organised companies out of 35 in the region competed against each other in a major trade fair in the Emms Atrium. Detailed company reports and accounts had to be submitted in advance, and companies then delivered five minute formal presentations to a panel of judges in the ALT.
Cranleigh were represented with distinction by ‘Calibre’: building on refreshment sales at sports fixtures they were also pleased to show off their strawberry, vanilla, mint and citrus ‘Smelly Bandz’, recently imported from China and targeted at youthful consumers. Overall winners of the evening were ‘Prestige’ from RGS Guildford with their profitable VHS to DVD conversion business. All participants greatly enjoyed the venue and Cranleigh’s hospitality, and a palpable buzz of enthusiasm was present throughout the evening.
