Congratulations to Sixth Former, Andy K., who has been awarded a prestigious award for high school students by Cornell University in New York.

Andy received the award for his piece called ‘Wearing Light’, an outfit that actually generates energy. Instead of fabric he used solar film panels with paper LED lights and designed the clothing based on a motif of fluid curves.

In ‘Wearing Light’ the clothes absorb sunlight and convert it into electricity, which is converted back into light energy as the clothes light up, particularly useful for outdoor and night-time activities.

Andy also received an honorable Gold mention for his work Resistance’, which uses a concrete-like fabric to make a statement encouraging society to get rid of its prejudices.

He hopes to continue his Design studies in the USA after Cranleigh.
