For the first time in over a decade, Cranleigh fielded a team in the U15 Eton Fives Nationals at Shrewsbury School this week. Six boys made the arduous journey up to Shropshire, giving up their Sunday to take on the best players in the country and represent their school at this wonderful sport.

Competition was tough, with Cranleigh’s second pair the only ones to make it past the group stage —  beating Eton’s seventh pair 12-3 in a superb display. Very quickly all three pairs found themselves in the Plate competition.

Here we had more success, and I am delighted to say that, with wins over Mill Hill five and Shrewsbury eleven, our first pair won the U15 Plate! Given that these boys are mostly U14s, and half had never played Fives before September, this is a fantastic achievement. With a little more training and match experience, we look forward to even greater success when the competition moves to Eton next year.
