Year 11 artists travelled to the British Museum to begin investigating their GCSE exam project theme of ‘Event’. The museum is full of commemorations of ceremonial, ritualised, religious and everyday events; notable individuals from different cultures recorded for posterity. These were recorded in sketches and photos, as possible starting points for creative ideas. As well as the artefacts the building and crowded walkways provided architectural views and compositions to photograph.

Year 10 travelled a few days later to see work in Tate Modern, and with 62 students and five staff in two coaches, it was one of the largest art trips in recent years. With work from traditional easel-based painting, through to installation and in such a wide range of media and variety of approaches was hugely inspiring. Students on both trips were well-behaved and hard working, finding inspiration in the range of work available in both venues.
