On Saturday 24th March, 14 cadets travelled a long eight hours up to Lancashire to Halton Cadet Training Camp for the new format CCF Easter camp. The camp concentrated on adventurous training, low level leadership and small team cohesion. The cadets were split into two sections, led by CSgt Shaw and L/Cpl Grainger.
The week consisted of many activities, with visits to the Honister Slate Mine which included a tour around the mines, followed by a death defying scale across the rock face. We took part in mountain biking in Whinlatter Forest and Ghyll Scrambling, which is essentially jumping in and out of a freezing cold mountain stream.
On the final two days we split into our two sections, planned routes and deployed on an overnight expedition. During the hike we summited two peaks and wild camped. These peaks were Sergeant Man (736 metres) and High Raise (762 metres). As well as summiting these two points, we went via Stickle Tarn, where the rain subsided enough to have a very picturesque lunch next to the lake.
This was the first time the Easter camp was run in this format and all seemed to really enjoy the diversity and challenge of the activities.
