Cranleigh is the lucky owner of some of the best fives courts in the south of England; 6 courts are located at the top end of the school in a prominent and easy access location overlooking the golf course.

While a ‘minority’ sport, the fives calendar is certainly full. With fixtures against opposition schools, old boys clubs, inter-house championships and a regular fixture against the CPS, there is plenty of opportunity for students to get a quality game.

Learning to Play

Since many pupils will never have played this unique and exhilarating sport before, we offer the opportunity for all the new students to learn how to play in the first term of the year.

We provide 3 activities a week, coaching everyone from beginners through to players competing at the Schools Nationals as well as regular matches on a weekly to fortnightly basis.

House matches

For many players the house competitions provide an opportunity to show what they can do in front of their peers, and are very well supported events. It is not unusual for us to see 40-50 vocal supporters around the fives courts when the matches are taking place!

Competitive fixtures

Fives is a venerable sport, played by some of the oldest and most well-respected schools in the country and Cranleigh is no exception. In the past we have played fixtures against Eton, Harrow, Shrewsbury, Westminster, Lancing, Charterhouse and many more.

We have also taken part in the Schools Fives Nationals at all ages, from 4th form to U6th and performed favourably. In previous years we have achieved positions in the quarter finals and done well in plate competitions.

Prep School link

Mark Halstead has done a fantastic job of training up and sending us talented kids from CPS. We look to create a solid link between the Senior and Prep through regular friendly fixtures and some joint training throughout the year.
