Thursday 10th October was an important day for the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, as it marked the Duke’s 500th awards ceremony. It was also a special day for three Old Cranleighans; Emily Brock, Michael Dolman and Abby Doherty, who were presented their gold awards at the ceremony at St James’ Palace.
The magnitude of their achievement is illustrated by the fact that only 4% of those who start their Bronze awards go on to complete their Gold awards. Having completed arduous expeditions, and undertaken a range of activities to meet the requirements of the award, the three OCs, along with the other young people there, had undoubtedly earned their day out at the Palace. The awards themselves were presented by broadcaster Jennie Bond, before the Duke himself came to congratulate all the award recipients on their achievement.
It was a memorable day, and hopefully will serve as inspiration for Cranleighans currently working towards their awards.
