Cranleigh Abu Dhabi opens its doors

This term saw one of the biggest ‘firsts’ in Cranleigh’s history, when Cranleigh Abu Dhabi opened its doors to the first intake of pupils at the beginning of this term. The brand new, state-of-the-art Junior School launched the academic year with 658 new Cranleighans. Please see ‘Abu Dhabi: The Journey’.

Bryn Parry and his wife Emma, the founders of Help for Heroes, along with a special Ambassador for their charity, Sergeant Tom Stimpson, MBE, were welcomed with a drinks reception and a packed Speech Hall as part of the Purvis Society Lectures.

Art in Paris

Museum and gallery tour to Paris

This term saw four intense days of art and culture for 17 artists on a Sixth Form art trip to Paris that took in the full spectrum of Impressionist, Post-Impressionist and contemporary works at different galleries, and even the Musée Quai Branly’s extraordinary displays of primitive art plundered during France’s colonial past.

Swimming training camp in Tenerife

Swimming Tenerife 2014

During Long Leave 11 Cranleigh students from all year groups took part in the School’s first swimming camp in Tenerife. The experience included daily training in the world-class facilities of T3, a multi-million pound complex hailed by national teams as ‘easily the best swimming training complex in Europe’ (the team found themselves training alongside the German Youth National Team). The team got to use an extremely rare piece of equipment, the Flume Channel, one of the most advanced pieces of swimming technology in the world.

Remembrance Poppies

As a special reminder on the 100th anniversary of the start of WW1, this term saw the Quad transformed into the School’s own field of poppies for Remembrance Day, as staff and pupils honoured those that have given their lives in the service of their country.

Kayaking National Schools' Chanpionship

National Schools’ Kayak Championship 2014

For the first time Cranleigh fielded a team in the National School’s Kayaking Competition, at Dreadnought Reach on the Thames – and did exceptionally well… (see Personal Bests)

El día de los muertos

31st October saw Cranleigh’s first Sixth Form Spanish evening to celebrate El día de los muertos: ‘the day of the dead’. It proved to be a great evening, combining culture with much merriment – and face-painting.

Surrey storm coach visit

Surrey Storm

Surrey Storm defence coach Bianca Modeste visited Cranleigh earlier in the term to work with the Senior players, who are currently in their off-season. She also took two defence workshops at the Prep School earlier in the day.
