The Cubitt Music Evening was a showpiece of the House’s endless musical talent.  The first half boasted an act from each and every year of Cubitt with a classical edge to their performances.  This was marred somewhat by Peter Westcott, whose epic performance came at a price as he removed the saliva from his horn in front of a 400 strong speech hall.

The interval gave time for the audience to discuss and debate the undeniable talent on show, with over £550 (and counting) being raised for Tildy’s Trust and Cranleigh School’s Sponsored Trip to Zambia.

A much more contemporary style accompanied the acts in the second half with various year groups once again intertwining to produce the highest standard of music.  Although impossible to mention all of the acts individually, huge congratulations must go to the forerunners of Cubitt music over the last five years: Ben Cox, Oscar Reeve and Jon Oldfield who were not only crucial in organising the event, but also in making it such a special evening.  As a result, all three have deservedly obtained their Cubitt House Ties from our sovereign leader, Mr Boddington.

The climax of the evening came with our House Song: the Beatles’ ‘Hey Jude’ being belted out by no less than 100 Cubitt boys. This sheer number in itself fortunately drowned out a group of us to whom music does not come naturally. The lives of Tommy Lyster and I, the two compères for the evening, were made easy as the overall standard of music really needed no introduction.

From the technical side where Mark Jenkins and his crew were faultless, to the organisation and delegation of our Deputy House Master, Mr Cooke, a massive thank you must go to everyone who made the evening so memorable.
