A team of UVI politics students from Cranleigh are putting the finishing touches to their entry for the PoliticalPolitics2 Studies Association Short Video Competition.  This is a national competition for 6th form Politics students across the country, and the team of Freddie Philips, Abi Dahl, Fin Chesterman, Matt Wooten and Emily Hill have been busy interviewing high profile political figures to help them answer the video’s key question “Europe – In or Out”.

This week the team conducted insightful interviews with Harry Aldridge, UKIP PPC for Guildford and Richard Wilson, the Labour party candidate for the same constituency.  On Wednesday UKIP MEP Diane James faced a Jeremy Paxman style grilling on the Europe question by interviewer Abi Dahl, before talking the students through her experiences as a Member of thePolitics European Parliament and the day to day tasks involved, including having to vote on 62 different proposals in 20 seconds via the electronic voting system!

The team rounded up the week with a visit to the offices of Anne Milton, MP for Guildford and Government Whip.  This time Emily Hill took over interviewing duties, with Fin Chesterman expertly directing the photography and sound.  Anne Milton provided some excellent answers to the Europe question, whilst also advising the students on interviewing techniques and the best ways to capture the ultimate 20 second political sound bite.

The final 4 minute video will be submitted to the PSA on 17th October, with the winning team getting the opportunity to undertake an internship at YouGov.
