Sunday saw the Under 16 and Under 18 girls compete in the South Indoor Hockey Finals and both of them delivered to come out as South Champions.

The U16s started with a comfortable 5-2 win against St. Teresa’s, followed by two victories against a strong Beaconsfield side (2-1) andindoor-hockey_11835 Wycombe (3-0). So to a semi-final against Wellington and Cranleigh took an early lead from a short corner and were never behind. Although Wellington levelled, we scored another corner from Fifi Robinson, and following a second equaliser, a great goal by Zoe Allchurch sealed the win 3-2. Another powerful team performance resulted in a strong 3-0 win over St. George’s in the final.

The under 18s had a tough match to start against Kingston but they passed the ball around and built up the pressure, resultingindoor-hockey_11827 in a 2-0 win. The traditionally strong Sir William Borlase were then beaten 3-1 and a comfortable 2-0 victory over Reigate resulted in a semi-final against the talented Ardingly team. By this time Cranleigh were passing the ball with speed and accuracy and thus having the majority of possession and controlling games. A 3-0 victory in the semi-final was followed by a 4-0 win in the final against Beaconsfield. A number of independent observers felt that this was the strongest girls Under 18 indoor tournament they had ever seen and it was great to see how effective Cranleigh’s passing was.

The two squads now go to the National Finals at Bromsgrove over the second weekend of January and we wish them the best of luck.
