On Wednesday 30th November, a receptive audience saw the musical highlight of the year, the Sally Beecham Vocal Competition. Twenty-two singers performed and treated us to a concert of varied repertoire ranging from Bach arias, Clara Schumann lied and song from musicals including ‘The Color Purple’. Performances were given by all voice types in multiple languages and the standard was high throughout. Unfortunately, as in any competition, there had to be a winner in each category. Therefore, Patrick A. won the juniors and Lily B. won the senior prize which was presented by Sally Beecham herself.

It really was a shame that there had to be ‘winners’ as there were so many others that could easily have been awarded the prize. A big thank you to Mr Saxel for rehearsing and accompanying the students and all the VMTs who work so hard with our students here at Cranleigh.
