It’s been a special week for sport, and as much as it will look like we are just celebrating winning that’s not the case. A successful sports programme can’t be judged solely on trophies or win ratios but it’s important to be proud of achievements when they come.

Over the last eight days a range of our teams has created moments in sport that will shape their future sporting behaviours. We saw our U18 Rugby Sevens team winning the Hampton sevens for the third year in a row. The whole team has played football or hockey this term and all have been with us since Year 9.

Our Boys U18 1st team hockey side won their National Quarter Final against Repton to secure their place in the semi-finals at Lee Valley. What is great to see is that 70% of the team played rugby or another sport last term.

Our U18 football team won the National ISFA plate semi-final with last minute goals in normal and extra time to eventually win on penalties. Half the team played in the Sevens a week before and our U15 rugby team just won their National vase semi-final. Every member of that team will be playing hockey for the School this Saturday in our usual block fixtures.

With only 300 girls and 400 boys across the whole school, these achievements are something of which we are all very proud. We have always tried to fly the flag regarding variety as well as focusing hard on our foundation of ‘sport for all’ alongside our high performance teams. These results come from a vast amount of effort by the pupils, coaches, support staff and the attitudes of the lower teams, who continue to challenge and push players above them.

It has been a great week and good luck to all the teams moving forward.
