Loveday HCA close final was anticipated for the Halloween final of this year’s inter-House Schools Challenge quiz, which was also PJL’s last (and 35th). Mr Longshaw warmly thanked Mr Neill for taking up the role of scorer and referee this term and announced that he would carry the competition forward in the future.

Sadly, for East and for the entertainment of a large ALT audience, the contest was never close and Loveday prevailed by 400 points to 230. The competition at Cranleigh began just before Loveday was built and in the very early days North (then called One North) dominated, but Loveday soon emerged as the most regular winners, despite periods of dominance by East and Cubitt. It was Loveday buzzing and answering that helped the School team reach five consecutive South-East finals in the late 1980s, though only winning one. Perhaps a Loveday-focused School team might help us restore that success? Those contenders, and House champions, are Henri Martin, Dan Khalupsky, Callum Job and Joe Mellor.
