The annual and eagerly anticipated IVth Form cross country run took place on Monday the 10th of October on a blustery afternoon. The girls’ race commenced proceedings with 39 runners with Jack Pearson running as the hare. After just 12 minutes and 52 seconds Christie Radkiewicz of South crossed the line just 17 seconds shy of the school record. The rest of the top five finished in hot pursuit consisting of Megan Batchelor (W), Libby Richards (S), Sophie Miller (W) and Olivia Chesser (S). Although West posted a very strong performance, South took the overall competition with 97 points to 113.

The boys’ race was also a very closely contested event. Ed Spencer led the way as hare with 63 runners in pursuit. Seb Leman of Cubitt crossed the line first after just 12 minutes and 26 seconds. The top five all finished with a sub 13 minute time. Second place went to Matt Coates of Loveday, with Ben Larwood (E), Max Haller (N) and Alex Gook (N) taking the third, fourth and fifth places. To little surprise the overall competition was won by Cubitt, however the gap between the other houses was smaller than in previous years.

Many thanks go to all those who helped make the event run so smoothly; both staff and pupils, and also to everyone who turned out to support, it was a fabulous event to be part of.
