On the Monday morning after Speech Day a motley collection of Lower Fifth formers began to assemble at the Outdoor Education Centre ready to head off on their Bronze expedition. It was great to see the bulk of the year group taking part, with ninety odd Cranleighans participating. After a good deal of supervised re-packing, the removal of extraneous items, such as colanders and fluffy slippers, the fifteen teams set off and scattered over the Surrey/Sussex boarder making for three different campsites.
Conditions were perfect with sunny skies and a gentle breeze – proper July weather. Underfoot the ground was dry and solid. The flowers and butterflies were making up for time lost in the miserable Spring and everyone was in great spirits. I am not aware of any significant geographical disasters and everyone made it into camp in reasonable time to enjoy a pleasant evening “chilling” with their friends.
This was a thoroughly pleasant couple of days in which all the parties acquitted themselves with honour and were a pleasure to spend time with. Let’s hope they have such a good time when they move on to Silver.
