The debate was expertly chaired by The Right Hon Anne Milton MP, who called on the two sides to help her make up her own mind on which way to vote in the IN/OUT questions. The Remain camp was represented by Paul Lomas, Senior Partner at Freshfields LLP.

There is still time to register to vote for the EU referendum on 23rd June. You can register online at www.gov.uk/register-to-vote. The deadline for registration is Tuesday 7th June. – Mr Rob Verdon, Politics Department

Paul gave a very strong economic argument for Britain remaining in the EU and directly challenged the ‘Vote Leave’ campaign to give a coherent picture of what Britain would look like outside of the EU.

The “Vote Leave” campaign was represented by The Right Hon Chris Grayling MP, the current Leader of the House of Commons. Chris focused on a number of key factors as to why Britain should leave the EU, including migration, trade, and sovereignty. He painted the remain campaign of not giving enough credence to Britain’s status in the world and the fact that we could do far better without the shackles put on us by the EU.

Podcasts

Politics-Podcast-3000Cranleigh 6th form students have been producing a series of podcasts in the run up to the EU debate, helping to clearly explain some of the key issues surrounding the debate.

The final podcast focuses directly on the key points from the debate, with the team assessing both speakers to determine who won the day. They are also joined by two special Guests: Mr Adam Rothwell and Mr Tom Leeke, who both offer arguments as to why they will be voting “remain” and “leave” respectively.
