Last Friday saw the Helen Wareham Brass Competition take place in the recital hall. The overall standard of playing was very high with some truly standout performances.

In the Junior competition Dominic Fellows placed third with a very musical interpretation of ‘Après un Rêve’, Jacopo Bounous was second with a dextrous and energetic performance of ‘Rondino’ and Will Riddy took a well-deserved victory with a brilliantly technical playing of ‘Variations on The Ash Grove’.

In the Senior competition Jonny Marsh, James Thornton-Wood and Georgia Murphy were all put through to the final after some excellent playing. Jonny Marsh’s performance of Franz Strauss’ ‘Nocturno’ was truly special and the undoubted highlight of the evening.

The Helen Wareham Final takes place in the Chapel this coming Friday at 7pm when all 15 of the Senior Section winners will provide what is bound to be a wonderful concert.
