In 2019 we opened the brand new van Hasselt Centre in honour of our former Headmaster, Mr Marc van Hasselt. The Sixth Form Centre, or Butts as it is fondly known, moved there when the building opened. Due to the pandemic the new Butts remained largely neutrally decorated. That is, until this year’s Butts Committee stepped in.

Liv F. is part of the Butts Committee who are involved in organising the social events for the Sixth Form. As part of an effort to make the space more welcoming and homely for students the committee have been thinking of ways to improve their socials space. The first step were to liven up the walls and that is where Liv and her paint came in.

She spent over a week completing this graffiti inspired mural which will form part of her art portfolio for her university application. The design was considered aspects of the School and the wider Sixth Form community.

This initiative was completely student led, with minimal input from me, so they could decide what the want to do with the space. Liv should be very proud of her work, shown below, and I can’t wait to see how the space continues to evolve and develop with our vibrant students.
