During the summer holidays, 13 members of the CCF deployed to Nescliffe Army Camp to take part in 11 Brigade annual Summer Camp. The week was the culmination of the years training, and tested the skills and drills which had been learnt.

Over 350 cadets attended the camp and it was good to see familiar faces from Hurst and Gordon’s School which ignited the school sporting rivalries on a different arena. The week consisted of numerous military stands ranging from shooting the cadet air rifle, GP rifle, paint-balling, testing military equipment, and a 24-hour exercise, all in the fantastic weather we had during July.

The week finished with inter contingent competitions and a traditional ‘Gun run’. Cranleigh placed highly in all of the shooting events and only lost the Tug of War on a technical infringement. Twelve very tired Cranleighans dug deep and pulled out some fantastic performances in the ‘Gun run’, only to narrowly miss out on a place in the final.

Many of the attendees completed the Cadet Syllabus and gained promotions, notably Corporal Bonsey to Sergeant. Thanks must go to all of the staff who gave up a week of the summer leave to attend.
