What is Cranleigh's academic ethos?

The Cranleigh Senior academic ethos centres on ambitious, discussion-led learning, shaped by teaching that inspires a love of learning. Pupils are encouraged to think independently, test ideas and stretch themselves, with no ceilings on ambition. With strong mentorship, a supportive community and a future-ready curriculum behind them, pupils leave not only academically prepared but confident, articulate and excited for the future.

How does Cranleigh approach digital learning?

Digital learning is woven into everyday classroom life in a practical, future-minded way. We put good teaching first, using digital tools only when they genuinely help pupils collaborate, research or share their ideas. Devices are used with purpose, not as passive screens, and pupils learn how to use AI sensibly by thinking critically, avoiding overload and making good choices. Lessons stay rooted in real discussion, curiosity and all-important human connection.

What are Cranleigh's exam results?

Cranleigh’s academic results reflect a culture of ambition, expert teaching and individual support. Each year, pupils achieve excellent outcomes across GCSEs and A Levels, supported to pursue the pathway that best matches their strengths and aspirations. Our performance across the subjects offered at our independent school in Surrey demonstrates the breadth of opportunity available and the impact of a challenging, well-supported academic environment.

In 2025, 72% of GCSE grades were awarded at 9–7, with strong performances across a wide range of subjects. At A Level, 83% of grades were awarded at A*–B, with 50% at A*–A. These achievements reflect the confidence, curiosity and resilience pupils develop throughout their Cranleigh journey.

Pupils progress to a wide variety of destinations, including Russell Group and Oxbridge universities, US universities, music conservatoires, creative pathways and competitive apprenticeships. This breadth of success reflects a school culture that encourages pupils to challenge themselves, discover their strengths and pursue futures that are right for them.

Spanning from Year 7 through to the Sixth Form, the Cranleigh Diploma is our signature educational framework. How does the Cranleigh AI traffic light system work?

The Cranleigh AI traffic-light system offers pupils clear guidance on when and how they can use AI in their work. Green tasks allow pupils to use helpful tools to brainstorm, organise ideas or polish their writing. Amber tasks ask pupils to proceed carefully – they can use AI for limited support, but they must show their own thinking and judgement. Red tasks mean AI isn’t appropriate at all, usually because the work needs to be fully independent.

It’s a simple framework that helps pupils build digital confidence, practise responsible use and develop good judgement, while keeping learning rooted in real thinking and discussion.

Our well-established Learning Support team works closely with pupils and teachers to help every individual make progress and achieve their potential. In Sixth Form, many pupils also complete the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ), developing the independent research and critical thinking skills valued by universities.

Yes. Through Cranleigh Futures, pupils receive personalised guidance on university applications, apprenticeships, gap years and other future pathways. The programme helps pupils understand their options and make confident, informed choices.
