How does Cranleigh Pre-Prep help every child reach their potential?
Every child grows at their own pace, so we pay close attention to how they’re getting on day-to-day. Class teachers quickly notice when a child needs a little extra help – or a bit more stretch – and respond quickly and calmly. Most SEND support happens in the classroom, helping pupils feel included, with small group or 1-1 sessions offered when they’re needed. Everyone – teachers, learning support, parents and other specialists – works together so every child feels understood, supported and able to make steady progress.

What does SEND mean?
SEND stands for Special Educational Needs and Disabilities. A child or young person has SEND if they have a learning difficulty or disability that requires additional or different support to help them achieve their full potential.
How does the school identify children with SEND?
We use a range of information, including classroom observations, teacher assessments, progress data, discussions with parents, advice from external professionals, and, where appropriate, standardised assessments. If we think a child may have SEND, we will contact parents or carers to discuss our concerns and agree on the next steps together.
How do I know if my child may have SEND?
You may notice that your child is finding learning, communication, social interaction, behaviour, emotional regulation, or physical tasks more challenging than their peers.
Who should I contact if I have concerns?
If you have concerns, please speak to your child's class teacher in the first instance. They will discuss your concerns, explain the support available, and, where appropriate, involve the Learning Support Team.
What kind of needs do you support?
We support a wide range of needs, including dyslexia, dyspraxia, speech and language needs, ADHD, ASD and broader developmental differences. SEND support at our independent school in Surrey is always tailored – never one size fits all.
What support might my child receive?
Support is tailored to individual needs and may include:

Is there an extra fee?
General 1-1 and small group support is included. Specialist 1-1 sessions are charged separately and explained clearly during the admissions process.
Do you have an EHCP-experienced team?
We support students with a variety of learning needs. When reviewing an Educational and Health Care Plan, the Head of Learning Support and Head of Pre-Prep will liaise regarding provision with the local borough / issuing council. It is important all reports are shared with the admissions team upon enquiry.
How is support recorded?
When needed, we create individual learning plans or pupil profiles. These are shared with parents and class teachers so everyone works together.
How will I be involved?
We value partnership with parents and guardians. You will be invited to review meetings, receive updates on your child's progress, and be encouraged to share your views and contribute to planning next steps.
Will my child be taken out of class?
SEND support at our independent school in Surrey happens in the classroom with a few short, small group or individual sessions happening outside the class.
