This year, the High Performance Netball programme was launched at Cranleigh School.
The High Performance Netball programme has enabled the top netballers to train together, in preparation for County tournaments. The programme has also helped individuals learn skills and attributes required to gain a place on the coveted England Netball Performance Pathway.
Alexa B (Martlet) gained a place in the Surrey County Academy, the first step on the England Netball Performance Pathway ladder. Alexa underwent 2 rounds of trials which were both highly competitive and heavily subscribed.
Charlotte H (Martlet) joined us this year in Sixth Form and has been successful in gaining a place in the Surrey Storm Academy, as well as being invited to join Storm’s U17 Long squad as they prepare for league fixtures in the new year.
Ella-Grace G (Martlet) will be the captain this year for the 1st VII at Cranleigh.
And Sienna Rutherford (South) has earned a spot in the Storm Pathway, training in the U19 Long Squad ahead of the National Performance League season.
Despite the Netball season not fully starting until January 2022, our U14A, U15A, U16A and 1st VII have all been competing in County tournaments throughout the whole of October. With all the teams finishing in a respectable 3rd place, and the U16A’s gaining a place at Surrey Finals in March 2022. The girls are busy preparing for the National Schools County qualifier tournaments taking place in November, as well as looking ahead to full block fixtures again next term- it’s been a long wait since February 2020!
I’m so pleased that Alexa’s talent has been recognised, having worked with her since she joined us at Cranleigh Prep School, she has gone from strength to strength, and I hope this helps to propel her netball forward.
Having started a new school and now a new franchise, Charlotte has really taken everything in her stride and proved herself to be a hardworking and dedicated Netballer.
Playing for a franchise at any age is a great achievement, however Sienna has managed to do this whilst still being only 16 years old, she is a fantastic mid courter who has had an amazing impact on Cranleigh Netball so far. Lastly, Ella-Grace being made captain was an easy decision for me as it felt like a natural progression for her. I have worked with Ella-Grace throughout her time at Cranleigh, from when she played in the Lower School teams, to now be at a 1st team level. Her passion and enthusiasm for netball is palpable and she is a fantastic role model for all future Cranleigh Netballers.
