This year marks 125 years since the formation of the Cranleigh Combined Cadet Force, and to celebrate this milestone, we organised our Biennial Inspection.
We were privileged to welcome Colonel Julian Salusbury from the Welsh Guards as our Inspecting Officer for the day. As a father of two of our cadets, his presence made the occasion even more special. We were also joined by members of the South East Cadet Training Team, as well as parents of the RSM, Mrs Price and Mr Boddington.
The afternoon began with our cadets hosting guests for a buffet lunch, while the Contingent prepared on the Parade Square (vHC car park) in the rain. Fortunately, the weather cleared just in time for the inspection. Molly B-S called the Contingent to attention as Col Salusbury, Mrs Price, and Major Money stepped onto the saluting dais.
Once on parade, the Platoons were dressed off by their Sergeants, and Col Salusbury and Mrs Price inspected the cadets, taking the time to speak with each of them. Many cadets shared that their favourite activity was shooting.
Following the inspection, the Lower Sixth performed a rifle drill display, showcasing weeks of dedicated practice. The Contingent Banner was then marched past the dais in a fitting display of discipline and pride.
The cadets then moved on to their lessons and activities, which included:
- First Aid
- Skill at Arms
- Command Task
- Fieldcraft
- Section Attack Demonstration
The afternoon concluded with a talk from Col Salusbury, followed by the promotion of three new Sergeants—including his own daughter, a touching and unexpected moment for them both.
Col Salusbury commended the cadets on their outstanding performance, calling them a credit to the School and the CCF. He also expressed his appreciation for all the hard work that had gone into preparing for the inspection.
A huge thank you to the Contingent Officers, especially SSI Lou Dicker, for ensuring the day ran smoothly. But the biggest thanks go to Molly and her Senior Cadets for making the inspection such a memorable and special occasion—one that cadets will cherish for years to come.
