In a stunning final, the Girl’s under-16s beat St George’s 3-1 to become Surrey Champions for the first time. The pace of the game was sensational from the start with St George’s having more possession in the first few minutes, only for Cranleigh to take the lead soon after. A great tackle on the edge of our D by Megan Batchelor was transferred onto Eva Solt in midfield and straight onto the forwards with Charlotte Calnan dispatching a simply unstoppable shot into the top-right corner. Every person in the squad stepped up to the pace required and Cranleigh scored again before half-time to lead 2-0.

With the opposition down to 10 following a sin-binning, St George’s still managed to get one back, but a couple of critical saves from Lexi van Breugel followed by a clinching goal on the break, rounded off an amazing game. It is in games like this when one realises just how important it is to have the best squad and we have no weaknesses. I suspect we will be meeting St George’s again at the Regionals… and even later in the competition! It will be exciting.
