Many congratulations to Ollie Pope who has signed a two year playing contract with Surrey CCC. Ollie, who has had a successful season forPope cropped both Cranleigh school and Surrey Academy, was also recently selected for England U19s. Being a regular member of both Test and ODI squads against Sri Lanka, he capped off a wonderful series for England U19s with a brilliant innings of 87 live on Sky TV.

Ollie (Loveday 2011-16) has been a regular member of the Cranleigh school 1st XI since his L5th year and has captained the 1st XI for the past two seasons. He finished a remarkable school season scoring 904 runs at an average of 75 – falling 43 runs short of the school record held by William Langmead.

He is the sixth Cranleighan to join the playing staff at Surrey, following in the recent footsteps of Stuart Meaker and Seren Waters and three older Cranleighans. (Charlie Potter, who played in the School’s first match in 1866, played as a professional from 1869, his first game coming while he was still at the School. James Carmichael followed him, and then Maurice McCanlis played for three seasons between 1926 and 1928).

Ollie, who only signed a contract last week, made his  1st XI debut for Surrey against  Yorkshire in the Royal One-Day Cup Semi Final last Sunday. He scored 20 off 23 balls in Surrey’s 19 run  victory and hopefully will be in the squad for the final on the 17th September at Lord’s.
