Overview

At Cranleigh, service and leadership are lived experiences. As pupils move through the Senior years, they take on roles that matter, supporting others, actively shaping projects and contributing to initiatives in the wider community and beyond. These experiences build leadership, and by the time they reach Sixth Form, they are ready to take on bigger commitments with confidence and greater purpose.

How does Cranleigh develop leaders through service?

Pupil leadership at our Senior School in Surrey begins in Year 9, with pupils taking on real responsibility, contributing meaningfully to service activities and seeing the impact of their actions. Leadership grows through action – mentoring, running initiatives, supporting House life and engaging with the community – not through theory alone. This approach continues into Sixth Form, where pupils step into larger roles.

What volunteering and mentoring does Cranleigh offer?

Volunteering is part of the weekly rhythm of school life. Pupils mentor younger students, support House life and contribute to structured partnerships with local primary schools. Cranleigh Seniors also take part in environmental projects and our charity work in Zambia, where they get hands-on with education-focused initiatives. Every opportunity strengthens confidence and teamwork while making a positive impact in the community.
