What dance is available at Prep?
Dance at Cranleigh Prep is a vibrant part of school life, with everyone encouraged to take part. It is offered as part of the curriculum in the lower years until Year 5. Pupils can join a wide range of dance classes in ballet, contemporary and street dance, and explore other styles, guided by specialist teachers who help them build confidence, creativity, musicality and technique. Regular productions and showcases give both new and experienced dancers the chance to perform.
For those wishing to take their dance further, the programme provides a strong foundation for Senior School Performing Arts opportunities and scholarship pathways.
Prep pupils can choose from the following dance classes:
- Modern (core curriculum & extra curricular)
Taught through the ISTD (Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing) syllabus, Modern dance builds strength, flexibility, and expressive movement. Students work towards regular exams to mark their progress. - Street Dance (core curriculum & extra curricular)
A high-energy style drawing from hip-hop and commercial dance. Classes focus on performance pieces for in-house shows. - Ballet (extra curricular)
Following the RAD (Royal Academy of Dance) syllabus, Ballet classes focus on developing grace, strength and technique. Students work towards graded exams. - Tap (extra curricular)
These rhythm-focused classes follow the ISTD syllabus, helping students develop musicality, timing and coordination. Students work towards regular exams to mark their progress.
What dance events happen at Cranleigh Prep?
Cranleigh Prep Dance performances and showcases take place across the school year, giving every pupil the chance to share their work with family, friends and the wider school. From dance showcases to larger school productions, pupils are encouraged to celebrate their creativity and self-expression and show the technical skills and stage presence they’re developing.
